One of the most enjoyable aspects of the reunion was seeing friends and
shipmates that you haven't seen in almost forty years. The other thing I
enjoyed was to walk around the town and look for old landmarks that have
changed with time. Many were difficult to find, some were easy. Here is
the USO. A place where many of us would stop by on liberty, have a dance
with the girls, play some games, hang out in the library, and even get a
rack for the night when you were wiped out from a good night out! Then there
were those of us that would check the "Off Limits" listing, and decide on
which one sounded like the best place to pull liberty at, and take off for a
good time on the town! Well, back to the picture, you might figure, now the
USO is a meeting place for "Senior Citizens"! Yep, that's right! It was
closed when I took this picture, but you could look through the windows and
see the rooms! where we used to hang out. It was like going back in time!
Let's hear from you guys that used to hang out here. And better yet if
someone has a photo of the USO or a postcard to share.
