Here we go... out the Main Gate, cross Kephart Street, straight ahead is
Reynolds Ave. On the left corner is the first building we saw on "The Strip".
Yep, it's still there! The downstairs was a clothing store where we would
buy our "civies', so no one would know we were sailors! Upstairs was the
locker club that we stored them in. I don't remember the name of the place,
but maybe someone can help me out?
The buildings next to it were torn down, and another group of them up the
block and across the street. These were probably all the buildings that were
bars when we were there. I remember they used to say you couldn't start at
one end of the street and have a drink in each bar, come back on the other
side and be able to stand when you got to the gate! I think it was true,
because they used to have a hot dog stand on the other side of the street,
and I remember stopping there for a few 25 cent dogs with chilly and onions all over them, having a tough time holding them, and walking back to the
ship!
